1. Colorado Avalanche
Defending champions have depth, talent, and experience. Recent injuries and a slightly less dominant regular season make their path harder, yet they remain formidable contenders.
2. Tampa Bay Lightning
Recent champions with a proven track record. Aging core and cap issues have eroded their depth, yet they’re never a team to count out.
3. Vegas Golden Knights
The addition of Hertl could be a game-changer. A balanced team that, if healthy, could replicate or even surpass their previous success.
4. Carolina Hurricanes
Consistency and a strong defensive system are the Hurricanes’ trademarks. Addition of Kuznetsov and Guentzel is a boost.
5. Boston Bruins
A mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent. The Bruins could make noise if they click at the right time, but age and injury concerns are red flags.
6. Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers boast a strong offense led by McDavid and Draisaitl. However, defensive and goaltending questions linger. If they peak at the right time, they could go all the way.
7. New York Rangers
Strong goaltending and a talented roster make the Rangers a threat. However, overcoming stronger Eastern Conference contenders will be challenging.
8. Florida Panthers
The Florida Panther also show favorable odds, but the Edmonton Oilers stand above them due to their slightly better odds in several listings. Sam Reinhart and Matthew Tkachuk’s contributions to the Florida Panthers this season have been significant boosts.
9. Toronto Maple Leafs
High expectations perennially unmet come playoff time. An elite offense led by Matthews could make this year different, but postseason performance remains a significant question mark.
10. Dallas Stars
Solid defensively with a capable offense. The Stars could surprise if they get hot at the right time but don’t typically command favorite status.
11. Winnipeg Jets
An under-the-radar team with the talent to make a deep run. Consistency and goaltending will be key to their success.
12. Vancouver Canucks
Showing flashes of brilliance interspersed with inconsistency. A dark horse if they make the playoffs, but a long shot for the Cup.
13. Detroit Red Wings
A young, rising team but likely not ready for a deep run. Their time will come, but 2024 probably isn’t their year for Stanley Cup glory.
